THINGS CHANGE

By this time, Eric was dating his future wife, Sue. I had my doubts about whether Sue was really down for a 24-hour drive, followed by a day-long, very male, robot-fighting event, but Eric really wanted her to come along, so I caved and then asked Jen to join us, too, because I didn’t want to be twiddling my thumbs while Eric and Sue made googly-eyes at each other. I was a bit disgruntled that “the girls” had invaded our special time, but it turned out okay. About ten minutes into the show, Sue realized that fighting robots were not really her cup of tea. To her credit, instead of grousing, she simply found an empty bench, stretched out, and slept through the whole thing.
